The Ambien Blog

I wrote earlier that I would tell the story of the now-deleted Ambien blog. So...

I was having trouble sleeping, so I talked to my doctor, who prescribed Ambien. Those of you who have taken Ambien know that while it is fantastic about putting you to sleep, if you don't go right to bed when you take it, you can do some pretty goofy things. One of the first times I took it, I figured I had about a half hour before I needed to get into bed, so I pulled out my laptop and was surfing a bit.

As I browsed, I had an IDEA. A fantastic idea. I would start a blog. Not just any blog, but a blog about the dictionary. I would start with the first word, and work my way through, and blog about how each word mad me feel. Aside from the twenty minutes I spent on a blog entry about the edition of the dictionary I was going to use, and some unsuccessful browsing for a picture of said dictionary (why I thought this was important is beyond me, but hey, Ambien), I started with the first word: Aachen.

Aachen is apparently a town in Germany, and if I remember correctly, I blathered about the pictures of it I found on a travel site, and as I wrote, it made less and less sense, and finally devolved into incoherence. I remember, as I wrote it, thinking: This is the BEST IDEA I HAVE EVER HAD. I am going to be the next blogger to receive a book deal, this is going to be just like Julie and Julia. Then I went to sleep.

The next day I read it over. I showed it to Shawn and a couple friends, who mocked me, and rightly so. I then deleted the entire thing in humiliation. I wish I would have kept a copy, because it really is a cautionary tale of blogging and insomnia medication.

And, scene. FIN.
